The EU process industry needs to become less dependent of fossils as source of carbon, and – at the same time – to reduce the greenhouse effect by decarbonizing the economy.
The Goal
Carbon4PUR will tackle the two challenges at the same time by transforming steel mill gas streams of the energy-intensive industry into higher value intermediates for market-oriented consumer products. For this purpose, work is underway on a new flexible technology based on the direct conversion of gas mixtures from the chemical steelworks into chemical building blocks. Which will be further transformed into polymer intermediates and flow into desired sustainable polyurethane applications of rigid foams and coatings. In the process costly physical separation are avoided. In the project, the Chair of Communication Science identifies different risk perception types for different CCU products and converts the empirical results into guidelines, information and communication concepts. These can be used for public communication, and to educate businesses.
