CERM - Designing Sustainable Mobility

The design of sustainable mobility is a challenge dealing with four major aspects: traffic safety, traffic efficiency, energy efficiency, and urban quality of life. These four research fields need to be cross-linked for a successful design. Therefore, future mobility depends on an efficient information and communication technology that is oriented and optimized for this domain.

At the Center for European Research on Mobillty (CERM), to be built in Aldenhoven, one aim is to switchably represent the already implemented communication and networking standards used worldwide in their current country configurations. Another goal is to research and implement new technologies to facilitate communication between vehicles, pedestrains, infrastructure, other traffic participants, and objects. The array of research projects based on CERM ranges from the communication hard- and software over systems and measures for traffic safety, traffic flow, and efficiency to the research of user acceptance and possible business models, thereby providing researchers of almost all faculties of RWTH Aachen University with a unique opportunity.
