WACKY - Methodology development and simulation of an assistance system for CFRP-element assembly

Structural components made from carbon-fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) are not only exceedingly rigid and sturdy, they are also very light in weight. Especially energy-efficient products in the aerospace- and automobile industries benefit from this economy of weight, when compared to elements made from other materials. Due to many manual processes during the assembly of CFRP-elements, at the present time the degree of automatization is still very low which, in turn, prevents an economic mass production using this material.

This project develops methods to design an intelligent and context-adaptive assistance system, thereby optimizing the manual production and integrating it into a virtual production process. To provide workers with all the necessary information in real-time, an integrative methodology has to be developed that combines visualization and quality assurance of industrial production.
