Internet of Production — Functional Perspective

Project CRD A — functional perspective: combination of Machine Learning, model-based AI methods and human-centered interfaces in context-adaptive production settings

The cluster of excellence Internet of Production (IoP) has the vision to enable a new level of cross-domain collaboration in the production domain by providing semantically adequate and context-aware data from production, development and usage in real-time on an appropriate level of granularity.

The central scientific approach is the introduction of Digital Shadows as purpose-driven, aggregated, multi-perspective and persistent datasets. The Cluster of Excellence will design and implement a conceptual reference infrastructure for the Internet of Production that enables the generation and application of Digital Shadows.

The cluster can be regarded as the core of industry 4.0 and follows on from the successful work of the cluster "Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries". It represents an important milestone for the further development of application-oriented and innovative solutions in the field of production technology.

The HCIC is part of three Cluster Research Domains (CRD):

Within the CRD A of the cluster of excellence we are working on human-centered "data to knowledge pipelines" that transform massive data into insights and that provide meaningful actionable knowledge to decision makers.

In close cooperation with partners from computer science and engineering we develop combinations of machine learning and model-based AI in context-adaptive production settings, create human-centered visualizations, decision support systems, and interfaces for intuitive, adaptive, comprehensible, replicable, interactive assessments of model, simulation, and smart data at different scales and abstraction levels for reporting, diagnoses, prediction, and decision.

Our goal is to build a toolbox for digital shadows, create smart decision support systems for the human-in-the-loop for shorter, more efficient, and agile innovation cycles.

Martina Ziefle and Gerhard Lakemeyer are leading the workstream “Functional Perspective:

Algorithms for Linking Machine Learning with Model-Based Analysis and Control” within the cluster research domain CRD A “Infrastructure of the Internet of Production”.
