myneData - Self-determined Utilization of Personal Data with Inherent Protection of Privacy and Data

On the internet, personal user data are collected every second on a large scale. Economic interests of the internet companies collide with the needs and rights for privacy of the individual. Usually, the individual user has no chance to control the utilization of his/her data and receives none of the generated profit. With the help of the data cockpit, which was developed in the course of the myneDATA project, future users will have the possibility to decide who is when allowed to use different kinds of data and to what extent. The project pursues three superordinated research goals: 1). Adequate data protection: Development of individually adjustable procedures of anonymising data and privacy warranties as well as their realization as intuitive regulators of privacy in the data cockpit. 2). Inclusion of the user’s perspective: Accord of individual privacy needs of users with technical possibilities of privacy protection. 3). Development of innovative business models: Business models are created in a specific way in order to conciliate the conflicts of data protection and data utility and applicability. Privacy and data protection are areas which are linked to multi-layered technical, sociological, economical, and juridical implications. This is the reason for an interdisciplinary approach which is applied within the myneData project.
